Community Sport impact for peace

On September 7, 2025, a hill-level championship was organized in Banga zone, in partnership with the Charles Nkazamyampi Foundation. This activity highlighted the power of sports in strengthening peace within the community.
A total of 300 young participants committed themselves to becoming peace ambassadors by signing peace commitment cards. They expressed their joy in having played a match without any incident, something that had previously seemed impossible. In the past, sports encounters among young people often degenerated into scenes of violence.
Thanks to the prayers and careful preparation of the Foundation prior to the event, this match took place in serenity and marked an important step toward a more responsible, united, and peace-committed youth.
One of the participants, Delite Irambona from Rudehe hill, the team that won the championship, shared his feelings:
“In the past, we used to fight and often never finished our matches, but today we are proud of the peaceful and complete conduct of this encounter. What struck me the most on the peace commitment card was the third point: ‘To act as a peace ambassador by encouraging the peaceful resolution of conflicts in my surroundings.’ Thinking about Burundi’s Vision 2040 as an emerging country and 2060 as a developed country, we must unite to achieve inclusive development. We do not often see people come to support us as Mr. Charles Nkazamyampi has done. Through different sports events, he has helped us a lot by involving us in positive activities. I call upon the youth to actively participate in sports events that contribute to peace, social cohesion, and inclusive development.”
This testimony illustrates how the event not only reduced tensions but also inspired a new generation of youth to embrace peace, unity, and the values of responsible citizenship.
